An exhaustive search for a missing 71 year-old man came to a tragic conclusion late Thursday night.
Felix (Terry) Morgan went missing on Sept. 3 after leaving a residence he had been staying at with family in the Toquaht First Nation community of Macoah, driving a white Lincoln Town Car.
The Ucluelet RCMP and Westcoast Inland Search and Rescue crew combed the area and an aerial search spotted the vehicle, relaying its coordinates to members of a ground crew who located Morgan in medical distress, according to Ucluelet RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Steve Mancini.
“Members of the RCMP as well as search and rescue were able to get to the extremely remote area and located Mr. Morgan. He was found to be in medical distress. Lifesaving measures were taken by those on scene at that time however, unfortauntely, he passed at that time,” Mancini told the Westerly News on Friday.
He said a specific cause of death is not yet known, but clarified that the injuries were not self-inflicted and police do not suspect foul play.
He commended the search crew for its efforts.
“I can’t say enough about their work,” he said. “Those guys and girls were out there all day and worked tirelessly until the very end. It’s an amazing team and we’re lucky to have them.”
