Six incumbent School District 79 (Cowichan Valley) trustees will be joined by one newcomer after Saturday night’s election.
Incumbents Rob Hutchins, Elizabeth Croft, Candace Spilsbury, Barb de Groot, Randy Doman and Joe Thorne were all re-elected. Joining them will be Johanne Kemmler.
John A. McDonald was the lone candidate left out. McDonald finished with 4,314 votes, 1,800 fewer than Kemmler.
“The Cowichan Valley School District would like to warmly welcome the newly elected School District 79 Board of Education
after final votes were tallied,” wrote SD79 communications manager Mike Russell. “With the new board set, the District looks forward to continuing on the path towards providing educational excellence to every learner.”
Trustees will be officially sworn in at the next scheduled Board of Education regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
