UPDATE 5:30 p.m.:
A barge that ran aground on Quadra Island Saturday evening will stay put for at least another night. The “Nana Provider” crashed into the shoreline south of Quathiaski Cove around 8 p.m. on Nov. 9.
An assessment of the barge’s hull found it to be compromised, the Canadian Coast Guard said in an emailed statement this evening. A salvage plan is still in the works, but no refloating efforts will happen tonight.
The barge will be monitored overnight and a Coast Guard ship will remain in the area.
Dusk has fallen and the tide, which peaked between 3 and 4 p.m. is on its way down again.
The Coast Guard said that efforts to move the barge will continue Monday morning.
UPDATE 11:40 a.m.:
Plans to refloat a barge that ran aground on Quadra Island last night are scheduled for this afternoon.
In an emailed statement, the Canadian Coast Guard said the party responsible for the barge is “taking action and making plans for an assist tug to refloat the barge this afternoon during high tide.”
The “Nana Provider” crashed into the shoreline south of Quathiaski Cove shortly before 8 p.m. on Nov. 9.

The barge is carrying rail cars and containers on the deck of the barge and doesn’t have cargo in the hull.
At this time, it’s unknown if there’s any damage to the barge hull. The Coast Guard said it’s currently being assessed.
The Coast Guard is monitoring the situation for any marine pollution and said at this time, there is no sign of pollution. Transport Canada is overseeing the responsible party’s planned salvage actions, said the Coast Guard.
