Two people were transported to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital with injuries resulting from a multi-vehicle crash near China Creek early Thursday morning. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Nine first responders from Castlegar Fire Department were called to the scene just after 7:15 a.m. Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio confirmed five vehicles were involved, and three were heavily damaged.
Castlegar RCMP shut down the road shortly after the accident. Once debris was cleared, Highway 22 was re-opened to single alternating traffic and fully re-opened just after 9 a.m.
Cause has not been confirmed at this time, but motorists reported to the Trail Times that there were patches of black ice on sections of the highway.
