Fallen tree snarled northbound traffic on Highway 1

Crews have cleared a tree that fell on the Trans-Canada Highway Wednesday evening, blocking traffic at West Shore Parkway before Goldstream Park.

The fallen tree had completely blocked off northbound lanes. West Shore RCMP was on scene to assist with traffic control while the tree was cleared by Emcon Services Inc., South Vancouver Island’s new road and bridge maintenance contractor.

While southbound lanes were unaffected, drivers heading northbound were delayed for just over an hour. Due to the large size of the tree, a detour was set up. The Trans-Canada Highway was fully open by 8:20 p.m.
