A new wildfire, visible from Nelson, is burning on a ridge between Duhamel and Sitkum Creeks above the north shore.
BC Wildfire office reports that the fire is about 4 km from the lake, and that it is being worked by tankers and helicopters, with an initial attack crew on the way.
UDATE: The wildfire office reported just before 8:00 p.m. that the fire is about 60 hectares in size and that its cause is under investigation. They will be updating the information on the fire occasionally at this link: http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/OneFire.asp?ID=544
There are also fires burning near Castlegar and near Kokanee Creek Park.
