Urban deer management committee to form in Princeton

An urban deer management committee will be formed within the next month to look at options to control the number of deer in Princeton.

An urban deer management committee will be formed within the next month to look at options to control the number of deer in Princeton.

Deputy Mayor Jason Earle said he learned more about dealing with deer at a wildlife management seminar in Cranbrook last month.

“Conservation officers told me Princeton is taking the right approach, by identifying the problem and then finding a solution, instead of jumping to a solution,” Earle said.

He said Princeton residents have already shown interest in being on the urban deer management committee. He will also be recruiting some people involved in wildlife management.

The number of deer in Princeton has been questioned before, with people split on whether a cull is a good option.

Penticton, Cranbrook and Kimberley have already opted for deer culls.
