RCMP hope someone will claim urn found on Nanaimo's waterfront

The case of a mystery urn containing human ashes has earned the scrutiny of police after it was found on Nanaimo’s waterfront on the weekend.

According to police, the urn was discovered by a passerby under a city park bench near the Nanaimo Yacht Club, located at 400 Newcastle Ave., on Saturday.

“We’ve run the serial number. We’ve checked with the director of funerals for Nanaimo. They have no record of that urn,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. “We have some pictures and we’re hoping somebody can lead us to who left it there or where it originated from.”

Anyone with information about who the urn’s owner is or where it might have come from is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2020-1290.
