United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1-405 in conjunction with the USW Humanity Fund has announced its support of over $5500 to area Food Banks in the East and West Kootenays.
USW 1-405 members in Golden, Radium, Kimberley, Cranbrook, Skookumchuck, Fruitvale, Nelson, Rossland, Crawford Bay, Fernie, Elkford and Castlegar all contribute to the Steelworker Humanity Fund of between $0.01-$0.02/hour worked annually.
The Humanity Fund’s mandate is to combat poverty in our communities as well as support catastrophic events that devastate our communities in Canada and around the world, including a $100,000 donation to the B.C. Red Cross this past summer to help those most affected by the forest fires in BC.
USW members in Trail (USW Local 480; USW Local 9705), Sparwood (USW Local 9346) and Elkford (USW Local 7884) also contribute to the USW Humanity Fund and support the Trail, Sparwood and Elkford Food Banks. The USW Humanity Fund is now in its 32nd year of Steelworker members helping in their communities. Over 1200 USW Local 1-405 members in the East and West Kootenays contribute to the Steelworker Humanity Fund.
