Philip Timothy Mbayoh is eager to connect with local businesses.
Mbayoh joined the Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce earlier this month as manager after the departure of Lesley Chaisson.
“It’s going to be quite a new thing for me — the challenges, but I’m up for it, and I’m ready to face the job and do my best.”
The Chamber of Commerce shared a Facebook post officially welcoming Mbayoh last week.
President Michelle Roberge wrote Mbayoh has an incredible resume of experience in business from around the world.
She said they are excited for Mbayoh to develop his own brand and personality for the chamber.
Mbayoh previously worked with the international humanitarian organization Mercy Ships in several African countries such as the Republic of the Congo, Madagascar and the Republic of Senegal.
For nearly five years, he would closely work with local businesses and governments to ensure the civilian hospital ship delivering healthcare services and surgeries in the world’s poorest nations, would have the supplies it needed, including fuel, to run smoothly.
He would also sometimes be a part of the advanced team and arrange port access months before the ship would embark on its voyage.
Mbayoh would come to Canada in November 2019 with his spouse, who is from Vanderhoof and he had tied the knot with, in the Republic of Kenya.
“It’s very welcoming the community, and we have family here and we have our friends from our local church,” he said.
As COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease Mbayoh hopes to explore and learn more about the area.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer and music, exercising, and singing.
“I really hope to connect with businesses in the community and see what we can do together to have a good [COVID-19] restart.”
