The District of Vanderhoof has adopted a bylaw to renew a franchise agreement with Pacific Northern Gas (PNG).

Bylaw 1091 was adopted during council on May 4 and extends the town’s agreement with PNG for another 21 years.

Vanderhoof mayor Gerry Thiessen says its good news for the community.

“It’s good for our community to know that we have a long-term cash flow coming in from this lease that we have.

“We’re very thankful for it – it’s good for us and will hopefully help to build stability here,” said Thiessen.

He added that there aren’t any other providers of natural gas in the area.
