Reita Vandenborre’s Celebration of Life was held on July 20 at the Vavenby hall.
The hall was packed with family, friends, and members of the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital women’s auxiliary, the Legion, the local crib club, and the Vavenby Trails and Recreation Society.
She took part in them all and more as well as helping out at the auxiliary’s thrift store. She enjoyed hobbies such as golf, darts, crocheting, crib, and ceramics.

Harry James, also a member of the Legion, was the Master of Ceremonies. He welcomed everyone and then asked Valerie Gerber to give a prayer. Next, he read the eulogy and this was followed by others sharing their stories and memories.
There were many funny ones and some that brought tears to the eyes.
A reception followed. The food, very plentiful, was potluck. Coffee, tea, and two punches were also available. Members of the Vavenby Trails and Recreation Society organized the kitchen.
It was a very warm and heartfelt goodbye to Rita.
