Vedder trail users will have to detour around work area

The trail upgrade July 16-17 will see section between the Hopedale parking and the Heron Reserve shut down

City of Chilliwack is warning regular trail users that a section of the Vedder Rotary Trail will be closed for a couple of days for a scheduled upgrade.

The Vedder trail is one of the busiest recreational trails in Chilliwack.

To “safely perform” the upgrade the trail section running under the Southern Railway train bridge, the part between Hopedale parking lot and the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve will be shut down on both Tuesday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 17.

The Vedder trail currently goes under the bridge but the amount of headroom or clearance is quite limited, so the work will involve excavation to lower the trail by about two feet, which will greatly improve the clearance for trail users.

But for July 16-17 they are asking everyone to use the detour (as seen on the map) along the northern dike to get around the trail closure, according to the city notice.
