The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the Cariboo Ford parking lot on Carson Avenue in the early hours this morning (Aug. 8).

Fire inspector/safety officer Ron Richert says the fire is not suspicious. The vehicle had been parked ready to be worked on by mechanics in the morning.

Quesnel Fire Department got the call at 1:11 a.m.

“We don’t know exactly what happened but there were electronic problems,” says Richert.

He says someone at the Petro-Canada station spotted the fire from across the road and ran over with a fire extinguisher, putting out 90 per cent of the fire.

“It could have been a lot worse. We got there and just had to do a little mop up,” says Richert.

One duty vehicle and a fire truck with six volunteer firefighters responded to the call.
