A crash into a power pole turned off the lights of Vanderhoof and area from early morning to afternoon on Jan. 9.

At 1:27 a.m. on Jan. 9, a vehicle travelling on Highway 16 struck a transmission pole near First Street in Vanderhoof, resulting in downed power lines and keeping the driver — the only occupant — within the vehicle.

Vanderhoof Fire Department and BC Hydro, immediately called to the scene, removed the driver from the vehicle. The individual was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation is continuing by Vanderhoof RCMP to determine the cause of the crash.

Parts of downtown Vanderhoof regained their power as on-site work crews made repairs to the transmission pole. School was also cancelled for the day as a result.

At about 3:30 p.m., power was restored to the 464 customers affected from Cluculz Lake to Fort Fraser and north to Stuart River.
