Penticton RCMP are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle which avoided a road check overnight Saturday and was later found crashed.

The Toyota was reportedly taken sometime on Nov. 29 from the Apex area.

The road check was in the Carder Road area near Lower Bench Road and was part of the South Okanagan Traffic Services impaired driver campaign.

According to Cpl. Ted Manchulenko the vehicle fled the scene and was found a short time later. A thorough search of the area by police failed to turn up any suspects or if anyone was injured in the accident.

The vehicle had a stolen plate at the time, taken from another vehicle with a similar description.

The matter is currently in the hands of the RCMP’s forensic identification department.
