Vehicle takes out power pole on Billings Road

The accident occurred over the weekend on the outskirts of Nakusp.

A car crash in Nakusp damaged a vehicle and took out a telephone pole on Billings Road in the early morning hours of Jan. 29.

Not much is known about the incident thus far, but RCMP have been able to glean some information.

“It appears that the vehicle came around the corner, lost control, hit the median and then slid into a telephone pole at approximately 3 a.m.,” said Constable Lee Bellamy of the Nakusp RCMP. “The incident was not reported to police until approximately 8:30 a.m.”

The telephone pole was broken and had to be taken down, and damage to the vehicle was such that it had to be written off.

Though the crash is still under investigation, Bellamy said there is a possibility charges could be laid under the Motor Vehicle Act.

“I can’t really say because I won’t know until I’ve had a chance to talk to everyone in the area and also the driver and other possible witnesses.”

If a person or persons has witnessed anything involving the crash they are encouraged to contact RCMP at 250-365-3677. Calls can be made anonymously.
