A spectacular crash that caused two vehicles to flip closed down Highway One, just past 208 Street for a short time on Saturday evening, July 2.
Around 7 p.m., a red vehicle, suspected of speeding eastbound, crashed into a black pickup truck, causing both automobiles to veer off the road and flip.
All parties involved in the crash were taken to hospital with minor injuries, said Const. Melissa Wutke of RCMP’s E-Division Traffic Services.
Numerous witnesses provided statements to police, but Mounties are still looking into what caused the crash. Police said speed on the part of the driver of the red vehicle played a role. The Surrey man was the lone person in that car. In the flipped truck were two women from Abbotsford — the 71-year-old driver and her 66-year-old passenger.
The eastbound lanes of the freeway remain closed until tow trucks could clear the vehicles.
One driver who had to wait in the closure left her keys in the ignition, causing her vehicle’s battery to die. An RCMP officer jumped her car so she get on her way.
