Even when the remains of her beloved mom, Charlotte, were stolen out of her Foothills home, Manon Care believed Charlotte was still with her.
And Charlotte was giving it to her.
“I kept hearing her say, ‘how could you do this to me?’” laughed Care Friday morning, three days after Charlotte’s ashes, stolen in a May 12 break, enter and theft from Care’s home, were returned anonymously.
“She absolutely adored my husband (Corey) and I could hear mom saying to him ‘How could you let her do this to me?’
Among the many items stolen on May 12 from the Cares home was a royal blue velour bag containing Charlotte’s ashes. Inside the bag was a box that contained Charlotte’s name. Attached to the bag was a smaller mesh bag containing a wedding ring and band. The ring and band were not returned.
Care said the plan for Charlotte, who died Feb. 19, was to mix her remains with those of Care’s father, Paul, who died in July 1999, and keep them forever in her home.
While the theft devastated Care, she believes that “99 per cent of the people in this world are good,” and was optimistic the remains would be returned.
“I refused to believe I wasn’t going to get her back,” said Care. “I could not and would not believe I wasn’t going to get her back. The theft was like having her taken away from me again.
“I am really very happy to have her home again with us.”
