Vernon man has second degree murder charge dropped

Brandon Wellington was one of three people arrested in connection with August 2015 death of Jason Hardy, whose body was found in Polson Park

A charge of second degree murder against a Vernon man has been dropped.

A stay of proceeding on the charge against Brandon Joseph Clayton Wellington was entered in Vernon Provincial Court Monday.

Wellington was one of three individuals charged in connection with the death of Jason Hardy of Vernon, whose body was found near the Vernon Lawn Bowling Club in Polson Park on Aug. 26, 2015.

A spokesman for the provincial Crown office said the prosecutor for the case concluded after reviewing evidence at the preliminary inquiry and other evidence available to Crown that the second degree murder charge assessment standard could no longer be met.

Two other males, one who was 28 at the time of his arrest last year, and the other who was 14, still face charges of second degree murder in connection with Hardy’s death.

Their matters remain before the courts.
