A North Okanagan resident is in serious condition after a head-on collision in northern B.C.A 21-year-old Vernon man was injured after his Ford Ranger pickup collided with a Ford Focus at the 314-kilometre mark of Highway 97 near Fort Nelson Tuesday at about 5:44 p.m.“He was medivaced by helicopter from the scene to Fort St John Hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries,” said Cpl. D.R. Klubi, with the Fort Nelson RCMP.“He was transferred to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. in Prince George and remains in stable condition, after having had surgery.”The incident apparently occurred when the southbound Focus pulled out to pass a southbound commercial vehicle and collided with the pickup.The occupants of the car — a 22-year-old man from Alaska and a 27-year-old man from Oklahoma — died at the scene.“A vacationing doctor, a couple of first aid medics from Buckinghorse, B.C. and witnesses attended to the driver of the pickup until police and the B.C. Ambulance Service could arrive,” said Klubi.The RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate the accident.“At this time, speed and driver inattentiveness are being considered as contributing factors in this collision,” said Klubi.No names are being released by the police at this time.
