Vernon RCMP takedown Kelowna man at dealership

Fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and gun seized from 26-year-old

A 26-year-old Kelowna man was arrested after a high-risk takedown by Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at Vernon Toyota Tuesday morning.

Fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and a loaded handgun were seized from the Kelowna man at time of the arrest.

Police responded to complaints from a passerby that a man had yelled at him and showed off his hand gun as he walked by.

“The male attempted to flee on foot, but RCMP officers performed a high-risk takedown, which resulted in him being taken into police custody without further incident,” RCMP media officer Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said.

The suspect ran into the used-vehicle lot and was apprehended by an officer, who by now was backed up by several others.

“It was impressive,” one Toyota staff member said. “It only lasted about five minutes.”

“Quick thinking by the officers helped remove a potentially dangerous person, as well as a quantity of drugs, from our streets,” she said.

The 26-year-old is facing numerous potential charges and will remain in custody until his first court appearance on Friday in the Vernon Law Courts.
