The Vernon School District has hired 25 new teachers this year, to either full or part-time positions.
“We’ve also hired 10 teachers on call and are still in the process of hiring some more,” said district superintendent Joe Rogers.
And as teachers have been busy familiarizing themselves with the new B.C. curriculum, principals in the district are on the move.
Vernon Secondary School principal Malcolm Reid has moved to the district office as director of instruction teaching personnel, replacing Diane Rhenisch, who has retired.
Taking over the VSS administrative spot is Don Balcombe, previously at Kalamalka Secondary. Mike Grace is now principal at Kal.
There are a number of other administrator transfers in the district: at Beairsto Elementary school, Moira Manthorne has moved into the principal’s office; Debbie Cullum is now principal at Kidston; Colline Johnson has moved to Mission Elementary as vice-principal.
New vice-principals have been hired at district elementary schools: Carrie Sutch at Okanagan Landing; Kyle Doerksen at J.W. Inglis; Laurel McEachnie at Alexis Park; Nigel Maccagno at BX.
Tyler Galenzoski has returned from leave and is back as principal at BX.
The district has also hired new support staff members: four casual clerical and two casual custodians. As well, interviewing and hiring of casual education assistants is being scheduled.
