The victim of an industrial accident in late February has been identified by his wife as Michael (Mike) Claus Kirkeby.
Kirkeby, 64, died Feb. 27 in an accident at Loewen Welding and Manufacturing in Abbotsford.
After the accident, WorkSafeBC spokesperson Trish Knight Chernecki said she could only say that “workers were working on a solid manure spreader when the incident occurred.”
In an obituary, Kirkeby’s wife wrote that her husband “passed instantly in a work accident with his co-workers and friends by his side.”
Kirkeby had two daughters and two sons, along with a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Prior to his death, Kirkeby had been working on rebuilding a Harley Davidson he planned to ride March 18 on his 65th birthday. The bike is being finished by his co-workers and friends, and his friend Brad will ride the motorcycle on his birthday.
