An apparent plumbing mishap sent Greater Victoria Public Library workers scrambling to get books off the shelves in the children’s section this morning.

At about 11 a.m. something went wrong as plumbers were working in the women’s washroom adjacent to the children’s area of the library on Broughton Street and water began pouring out under the door.

“They shut it off, but it just kept coming,” said one library patron. “The librarians were running around yelling and trying to get the books off the floor and lower shelves.”

The water stopped after several minutes, but not before soaking the carpet and running under some shelves. It is not known how much, if any, damage was done to books in the area.
