Victoria has been revealed as one of the most welcoming places in Canada based on online guest reviews.
According to Booking.com’s 2018 Guest Review Awards, Canada’s top 10 most welcoming places to visit include Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler, Kelowna, Calgary, Halifax, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ottawa, Quebec City and Mont-Tremblant.
For the seventh annual edition of the Guest Review Awards – in which the digital travel company honours its accommodation partners that consistently deliver great guest experiences – of the 759,845 properties across 219 countries and territories being given an award, more than 2,200 are Canadian properties.

When it comes to the most welcoming property types in Canada, B&Bs top the list, apartments come in second, followed by hotels, motels and inns.
Globally, apartments are the top-awarded accommodation type for the second year in a row, making up more than a third of the award-winning properties in 2018. Nearly three quarters of all the winning properties are homes, apartments and other unique places to stay.
Recent research by Booking.com shows 29 per cent of Canadian travellers want to stay in an accommodation type they’ve never experienced before in 2019.

“No matter the type, size or location of the property, what we see from our customers is that they value a human connection when they travel, whether it’s some extra attention to detail or a truly individualized approach to service,” said Nuno Guerreiro Regional Manager Canada at Booking.com.
To be recognized with an award, properties had to have an average review score of 8.0 or higher based on at least 5 reviews, looking at cleanliness, comfort, location, facilities, staff and value for money.
