Desmond Dhaliwal’s first birthday is one that will live on, in part thanks to the unique circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Abbotsford toddler reached the one-year mark on Sunday (April 26), and being the first baby in the Dhaliwal family in many years, his father Jas Dhaliwal and mother Amarjot Dhaliwal planned a big celebration months ago at a local banquet hall.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic altered those plans and with everyone in social isolation a new celebration was created.
“We still wanted to do something special for Desmond’s first birthday and we sent messages to our immediate family and friends to join in on a car parade,” Jas said. “It was very emotional as we have been distant from our family and friends since the start of the pandemic. We encourage all new parents to give car parades a shot, it is really worth it.”
No concrete plans have been made for Desmond’s second birthday, but needless to say, Jas and Amarjot hope the banquet hall will be open in 2021.
