Police discovered vehicle on fire overnight in Yorkson neighbourhood in Langley

Langley resident Kelley Paris was home in her bed Monday morning when the noise of a burning SUV awakened her.

“We were sleeping and all of a sudden, I heard this weird noise,” Paris told The Times.

“(It was) super loud.”

Paris and her husband live in a townhouse in the 8500 block of 204 Street in Langley’s Yorkson neighbourhood. When she looked out her window, she could see a Jeep directly across the street was in flames.

The burning SUV was parked between two other vehicles.

“I flew out of bed and I heard this popping noise.”

It was the Jeep’s tires, exploding from the heat.

“They were popping,” Paris said.

“Each individual tire was just bursting, five, 10 seconds after each other.”

She said police were already on the scene, and the fire department arrived shortly afterwards.

It was “scary” to hear the fire may have been deliberate, Paris said.

Langley RCMP said just after 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers on patrol came upon a fully involved vehicle fire.

Once fire crews extinguished the blaze, police were able to investigate the vehicle to find that it had no licence plates and no owner nearby.

The vehicle was parked between two other vehicles which were also damaged.

The burned-out vehicle, a dark coloured Jeep, matched the description of a vehicle involved in a shooting in South Surrey about 45 minutes prior.

It also matched the description of a suspect vehicle from shots fired nearby in Langley early Sunday morning.

A police dog attempted to track for suspects near the scene but was unsuccessful.
