The Courtenay woman who had lost her dog for more than a week was reunited with her husky/shepherd cross Tuesday morning when she and her partner found their pet at the top of a logging road near the Cruickshank River.
Kacey Wall and her partner Chris had both taken time off work to search for two-and-a-half-year-old Beira, who went missing Aug. 11 when Wall was hiking in Strathcona Park.
A number of people, and groups such as the Comox District Mountaineering Club, helped the couple search for Beira.
“One of the women helping us find her had lost her retired sled dog for five months before finding him,” Wall said.
She and Chris had been searching nine days straight from dawn to dark.
“Every possibility floods your mind, from the best outcomes to the worst,” she said. “At first I think it was a feeling of disbelief. Then when it really sunk in that it was her, I started shaking. The sheer amount of relief was overwhelming. I was crying and smiling all at once.
“This ordeal could have lasted much longer,” Wall added. “We were so lucky to have found her, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of this amazing community.”
