A Coote Street home was destroyed by a ‘stubborn’ fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.
It was at approximately 12:40 am when the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to the reported structure fire in the 9400 block of Coote.
On arrival fire crews reported seeing smoke and heavy flame from the exterior rear deck and roof structure of a two-storey residential home.
Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Firefighters report the blaze was “stubborn to fight” as it was deep-seated within the roof structure.
Fire crews fought the blaze and contained it to the immediate structure, with minor fire damage to a neighbouring property.
Occupants were home at the time of the fire and quickly and safely evacuated the residence. The occupants are now in the care of Emergency Social Services.
Neighbours reported that individuals from adjacent houses were also evacuated.
There were no civilian and or firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental at this time and is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
