videoA landslide on Mount Hays has washed out a section of road leading to the mountain’s summit.
The landslide is located just before the first lookout on the mountain trail, and has carved out a channel approximately 30 metres wide, blocking the road and preventing vehicles from driving through.
A maintenance crew from Telus was on site at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 12, but were forced to turn around due to the heavy build-up of fallen trees and roots.
The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development said that it was not aware of any slide in the Mount Hays area.
“However, we are aware that, with the recent amount of rainfall, landslides and related events are occurring.
“We encourage the public to take every precaution in the North Coast area while driving on backcountry and forest service roads.”
