Incident took place Saturday on Cedar Road

An incident in North Oyster over the weekend has resulted in an individual being arrested and charged.

A 49-year-old man has been charged with multiple counts of assault following an incident on Cedar Road over the weekend.

According to Ladysmith RCMP, police received multiple calls about a man threatening employees at a business located on the 13000 block of Cedar Road at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Ladysmith RCMP Staff Sgt. Ken Brissard told the News Bulletin that the man was able to flee the business before the police could arrive on scene.

“Prior to the police arriving he retreated to an area residence and refused to come out,” Brissard said.

The staff sergeant said there was no one else inside the home that the man had entered. He said a negotiator and the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team were called in.

“We brought in somebody that is trained in negotiations,” Brissard said. “The ERT team was en route, but prior to their arrival the alleged accused came out and was apprehended.”

The individual is in RCMP custody and was charged with multiple counts of assault, according to Brissard, who said the man is expected to appear in court this week.

“His actions were such that the staff of that business felt threatened enough so that the male has now been charged with multiple counts of assaults,” he said.
