VIDEO: Pedestrian seriously injured in Abbotsford

Two people reportedly hit near recently upgraded Trethewey crosswalk

  • Dec. 17, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Two pedestrians were hospitalized last night – one with serious injuries – after they were struck by a vehicle on Trethewey Street in Abbotsford.

A 53-year-old woman remains in hospital in critical condition, while the other victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday in heavy rain near a crosswalk.

Trethewey was closed between Adair Avenue and Slocan Drive to allow police to investigate. It was re-opened after midnight.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and has been co-operating with investigators.

The crossing in the area has long been a source of concern. In 2016, staff recommended an overhead flashing beacon be added to the crosswalk. A beacon has since been added.
