A serious motor vehicle accident on Young Road near the CN rail line caused traffic disruptions and a power outage to thousands Friday morning.
Fire crews, police and BC Ambulance were on the scene around 8 a.m. for the two-vehicle crash involving a white SUV and a black Jeep SUV that sheared off a power pole.
BC Hydro reported 3,598 customers were without power by 9 a.m. due to the motor vehicle accident. There is no estimated time for power to be restored.
By 9:56 a.m. some power was restored but 2,441 customers were still without power in the downtown area. By the afternoon, power was restored to all customers and a new pole was in place with.
Both vehicles were almost completely destroyed in the crash. No word yet on injuries but ambulances had left the accident site by 8:30 a.m.
Shocked witnesses were at the scene as the area around the two vehicles was taped off pending the arrival of BC Hydro crews.
Also in the mix was the train crossing and a CN crew was also there to assess safety. The black SUV came to a rest in the southbound lanes of Young Road about three metres from the train tracks, and debris from the crash was on the tracks.
