For the second time in a little more than a month, Surrey Fire Service responded to a fire in the 8300-block of King George Boulevard.
Fire crews, along with BC Ambulance Service and Surrey RCMP, were on scene Saturday afternoon (Jan. 26) around 1:30 p.m. A Black Press freelancer on scene said there were more than a dozen firefighters working to extinguish the blaze.
Battalion chief Reo Jerome said the fire was a property that has some secure fencing around it “with about five buildings remaining on the property” from an old mobile home and motel complex. He said it was the same vacant property that was the scene of a fire in December of 2018.
“One of the old mobile homes was fully involved in fire when the crews arrived,” Jerome said.

He said the mobile home “is pretty much a total loss.”
“It’s an old mobile home that was slated for demolition,” he said. “There’s about four other buildings on the property that were boarded up awaiting demolition and it appears that they are undergoing some asbestos remediation.”
Jerome said he has “no idea” of the cause yet “other than the property is secured and there’s now power to any of the buildings.”
“Fires don’t usually start on their own, so it’s very probable that someone gained access to the property and that’s how the fire started.”
Jerome said the department is getting the owner to secure the scene with security and re-board up the remaining four buildings. He said the department will probably have an investigator go by the scene on Monday to have a look.
On Dec. 2, 2018. crews responded to a fire on the 8300-block of King George Boulevard that destroyed an abandoned motel.
