Saanich Fire crews extinguished a kitchen fire at Noodlebox’s Uptown location on Friday during what would have been the lunch rush.
A Noodlebox cook pulled the fire alarm alerting Saanich Fire around 11:45 a.m., when flames grew between the stove and the wall, said an Uptown spokesperson.

There were no injuries though the fire threatened a daycare upstairs which was temporarily evacuated. As of Friday afternoon there was no estimated dollar figure for the damage to the popular Saanich restaurant.
“When we arrived on scene there was smoke coming out of the Noodlebox,” said Lieut. Tak Niketas. “Nobody hurt, nobody burnt, only the food was burnt.”

Because of the daycare Saanich sent all trucks.
“Our heart rate steps up on that, especially when we found out there was a daycare above,” Niketas said.
The fire came from the kitchen but the official cause is under investigation. It extended into walls but didn’t go upstairs.
“They were cooking so we’ll see what happens from [the investigation].”
