Jodi Zwicker is ready to work on the issues facing the Town of View Royal and wants to make sure residents are included in the process.

“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for someone like myself who lives in View Royal,” Zwicker said.

“I’m an active mother, married, small business owner and it just seemed like the right platform for someone like me to bring the experience I have to View Royal.”

Zwicker said she’s reviewed a lot of the minutes from View Royal’s meetings during the past few years and wants to see balance in the changes coming for the town.

“It would include traffic and pedestrian safety, relations with other municipalities pertaining to the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre – that seems to be an ongoing issue – and of course, commercial and residential growth balancing that while keeping park land and community services running and not increasing taxes. It’s a difficult balance.”

She said her main priority is to represent the community, not just herself.

“There are a lot of things at this point, what I would like to do is see a representative of the community,” she said.

“I think having a personal agenda is a great thing to bring to the table but I really am open to ongoing issues, current issues and things residents might say to me over the course of this campaign. I’m not one sided and I’m very open to ideas.”

Zwicker said she believes the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society’s issues could be resolved if everyone works together.

“I think we can come to a reasonable conclusion with that through discussions with mayors of the other districts and municipalities,” she said.

With children in school in View Royal and also as a realtor, Zwicker already has had conversations with residents about their concerns but she does also plan to do some door knocking and reach out to more residents.

“The door knocking has not started. I wanted to address some of my online issues, just getting my website up and I’ve taken this time to get that done.”

View Royal’s byelection is scheduled for Nov. 18. Find the candidates and more information online at goldstreamgazette.com.
