VIHA staff evacuate offices

Smoke detected in downtown Parksville building on Wednesday afternoon

WHERE THERE’S SMOKE: Well, apparently there isn’t always fire. Five Vancouver Island Health Authority staff members had to evacuate their offices on Wednesday afternoon after they smelled smoke. The Parksville Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly and did a thorough inspection. “We weren’t able to locate anything, which is a good thing, I guess,” said Chief Doug Banks. The chief said the building’s maintenance staff were going to do another check later
