Access to Campbell River’s historic heritage house just got a lot safer.
The city has recently completed a new parking area off to the side of Haig-Brown House along Highway 28.
Visitors to the heritage site typically park along the side of the highway or across the street at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship church and then cross the highway.
Erin Nowack, operations manager with Greenways Land Trust, which provides maintenance at Haig Brown House, said the parking lot makes the Haig Brown House much safer.
“We are very excited to see this project completed – it provides invaluable safe access and a drop off location for the public to enjoy the legacy of the Haig Brown family on the banks of the Campbell River,” Nowack said in a news release. “Thank you to the city of Campbell River staff and councillor Samson for being instrumental players in seeing this project completed for the 2014 summer camp season.”
During budget planning in January, council approved allocating $21,500 from its facility reserve to create the small gravel parking lot and drop off area at Kingfisher Creek.
The new lot is intended to provide safer access and parking for people visiting the site and attending summer camps at the Haig Brown House as well for Greenways Land Trust volunteers who provide landscaping maintenance work onsite.
