Walk for Alzheimer’s fundraiser cancels walks in Abbotsford and Chilliwack due to COVID-19

Organizers says a virtual event on May 3 may take its place

Abbotsford and Chilliwack’s IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s event has been cancelled to curb the spread of COVID-19

The cancellation of Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s May 3 event follows the latest recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Centre for Disease Control.

“Our first priority is the safety of our participants, staff, volunteers and their family and friends,” said Cathryn France, the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Director of Resource Development. “The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is our biggest fundraising event of the year and the funds raised allow us to provide critical programs and services.”

The Walk for Alzheimer’s event is normally held in 20 communities across B.C. France says that organizers are trying to organize something in place of the event.

“We are committed to coming together and having this event go ahead in a different way, perhaps virtually. Please stay tuned for more information, but keep May 3 free in your calendar.”
