Wanted man crashes vehicle into a truck, continues to evade RCMP

South Okanagan RCMP are warning the public not to pick up any hitchhikers

A man with a warrant for his arrest continues to evade RCMP after fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle incident.

Jeffrey Pelly, 42, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder on Highway 3 (on Anarchist Mountain, 25 kilometres east of Osoyoos) when he sideswiped a Ford F150 towing a tent trailer around noon on Aug. 15.

Pelly, who is wanted for failing to comply with a probation order, caused extensive damage to the truck and tent trailer which were rendered inoperable. RCMP said the incident left Highway 3 blocked for approximately one hour and 45 minutes and the driver of the truck and her two young children were left shaken by the incident.

Pelly fled the scene in the Nissan, only to ditch it a short distance away and head into the bush on foot.

Sgt. Jason Bayda said RCMP searched the area for several hours, with support from a police dog from the Penticton detachment and the RCMP airplane from Kelowna, but could not locate the man.

Pelly was last seen wearing dark pants, a light coloured shirt, red hat and a black backpack. He is a white male, approximately 5’9″ and has a slim build. Police are asking anyone to refrain from picking up hitchhikers and to call 911 if a person matching those descriptors is seen in the area.
