Warfield residents interested in municipal politics are asked to step up to fill a vacant position on village council.
Allana Ferro, senior administrative clerk, has been appointed chief election officer and the village is preparing for nominations mid-month, following the resignation of long-time councillor Tom Milne.
Interested residents will have from Feb. 23 to March 4 to fill out nomination papers and ready for a potential byelection, which would add approximately $4,000 to the village’s 2016 budget, confirmed Jackie Patridge, village corporate officer.
If competition comes forward, then advance polls will be set for March 30 and April 6 with Election Day scheduled for April 9. Voters will be asked to drop ballots at the village office from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on these days.
With three years left in the four-year civic role, Warfield is required to fill the empty councillor seat by acclamation or through a byelection if more than one person applies for the position. Patridge couldn’t confirm any interest at this time, just that she’s “heard rumours.”
Milne left his post last month after a rocky start to his first term with a new council. His experience started on village council in the late 1970s; he later found his voice on the Board of Variance for 13 years before getting back to his councillor seat in 2008.
