Waterfront back on Penticton council agenda

Okanagan Lake waterfront is back on Penticton City Council agenda tonight.

Penticton City council has a busy agenda laid out for their regular meeting tonight.

Some of the highlights include:

  • The official announcement of the full board of directors for Tourism Penticton, which includes representatives from a number of tourism sectors, including venues, wineries, accommodators, along with the City of Penticton, the Penticton Indian Band, and Granfondo and Challenge Penticton.
  • A presentation from Rod King, Chair of the West Okanagan Lake Waterfront Select Committee on the latest designs for the stretch of lakefront between the Peach and the SS Sicamous.
  • Consideration of changes to the City of Penticton’s Electric Utility Disconnection Policy. The city’s Electric Utility policy manual was endorsed in April 2003, and council has directed staff to review the disconnection policy and recommend changes to tighten collection guidelines.
  • Penticton Fire Chief Wayne Williams will be asking council to renew the Fire Protection Mutual aid agreement with surrounding communities in the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen for a further five-year term.
  • The Penticton Museum is seeking the city’s support for a grant application to Heritage Canada for the development of a Steamfest Festival to celebrate the 100th anniversaries of the S.S. Sicamous and S.S. Naramata in 2014 and the KVR Railway in 2015.

The entire agenda can be viewed online at the City of Penticton website. Council meets at 6 p.m. Jan. 21 in Penticton City Hall, 100 Main St.
