In the nativity scene of one Parksville church, Mary and Joseph are looking down at an empty space where baby Jesus should be.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension on Wembley Road has been missing its baby Jesus replica since sometime between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and church member Kathleen Haverty hopes it will be returned.

“We don’t have a baby Jesus in the crib, and we’re sad that somebody needed to take it,” she said in a message to The NEWS.

“We would like to have the infant Jesus brought back,” she said.

Father Mike Favero, pastor with Church of the Ascension, confirmed the replica is missing.

“It’s disappointing that someone would do something like that. Why would they do something like that?” he said.

The parish office can be contacted at 250-248-3747.
