Police now believe a call about several people with weapons in Aldergrove was a hoax.
Langley RCMP descended on the centre of Aldergrove on Friday, July 13, following a report that several people were seen with weapons.
The road was closed from 264 Street and 268 Street for approximately two and a half hours, re-opening at 12:45 p.m.
Const. Craig Van Herk, who speaks for Langley RCMP, said that at about 10:20 a.m. on July 13 Langley RCMP officers responded to a report “involving multiple people and firearms” in the 26700 block of the Fraser Highway.
Fraser Highway was closed as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety, Van Herk said.
The Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT) was dispatched to the scene using their Tactical Armored Vehicle (TAV).
The TAV, which is an army tank, had been in Langley only the day before at Langley RCMP’s Junior Cadet Camp.
Police were unable to locate anyone with firearms and don’t believe there actually was anyone carrying weapons.
A lot of police resources went out to this call which has to be taken very seriously, said Van Herk.
