All of Abbotsford’s parks and trails are closed, with the city preparing for a major snowfall over the next 36 hours.
The city announced Monday that windy and cold weather has prompted the closures, and warned residents to stay away from still-hazardous frozen ponds and lakes.
With more than 15 centimetres of snow anticipated over the next 36 hours, city crews are also gearing up to try to keep Abbotsford’s roads drivable.

In a press release, the city noted that roads are classified into three priorities.
The first bunch of roads to be cleared include 350 kilometres of major high-volume and strategic collecgtor roads. Those include transit routes, school zones and access to hillside areas.
The second bunch include 170 kilometres of remaining important routes.
Three-hundred-ninety kilometres of local roadways are left for last.

A snowfall warning remains in place for Abbotsford and the rest of the Lower Mainland. Environment Canada says snow will begin Monday afternoon and continue into Tuesday.
There are also three shelter extreme weather shelter spaces for those with nowhere else to go. They can be found at:
• Salvation Army, 34081 Gladys Avenue, Abbotsford;
• Gateway Church, 2884 Abbotsford Mission Highway;
• The Warm Zone (adult females), 33264 Old Yale Rd.;
