Andrew Weaver has been acclaimed as the leader of the B.C. Green Party.
The Oak Bay-Gordon Head MLA was the only person seeking the party’s nomination, earning unanimous endorsement from the Green Party’s provincial council.
“I am greatly humbled by the outpouring of support that I received over the course of this leadership process,” said Weaver.
“There is a lot of work to do in order to get ready for the 2017 election, but it has never been more clear that British Columbians are looking for something new. I am excited to introduce them to the B.C. Green Party.”
The party wanted to have a permanent leader in place for the upcoming Vancouver–Mount Pleasant and Coquitlam–Burke Mountain byelections. Adam Olsen has served as interim leader for the party since August 2013.
“The past two-and-a-half years have been a time of real growth for the B.C. Green Party,” said Olsen. “With 2017 on the horizon and a couple of byelections due to take place in early 2016, council felt it was important that we move forward.”
