A program created to aid people with the exciting transitions of their lives is back.
The Welcome Wagon is back to welcome new community members, brides and babies with the help of Jeanette Jackson.
“I thought it would be pretty cool. I get to meet new people and help them feel comfortable here.” Jackson said.
The Welcome Wagon is a program that gives information and special items that help people who have just moved to town, recently been married or had a baby.
Community members and businesses contribute to the baskets that Jackson puts together by putting in gifts.
“Businesses put items in the basket that they make or sell. We also put in important information and resources that can be found in town.”
Jackson, born and raised in Golden, explained that the Welcome Wagon also gives smaller businesses or home based businesses the opportunity to get their name out there.
“There are a lot of businesses here that people run out of their houses. So if you just move here and don’t know how it works and don’t know your way around, it’s hard to find some of those. With the Welcome Wagon, we are able to let people know about those places too.”
“Anyone that wants to contribute to the basket can.”
Jackson, who also works at the post office, said that she is looking forward to her new role which she estimated will probably average to about 120 visits a month.
“I have a bit of catching up to do right now with everyone who moved here in the past year when there was no Welcome Wagon. But I am looking forward to it and am excited about it.”
