West Shore RCMP arrested a man for breaking into multiple vehicles in one neighbourhood last weekend.
On Sunday, Sept. 23 at about 1:20 a.m. police went to the 300 block of Belmont Road in Colwood after a resident called police after hearing car doors open and close multiple times in the neighbourhood.
The resident spotted the suspect and kept an eye on him until police arrived. A suspect was caught with two cameras, two cellular phones, other people’s credit cards and some change.
Greg Cunningham, 29, is charged with obstructing a police officer, for giving a false name, and two counts of breach of probation.
Police hope to recommend charges related to stolen property.
“We may have further charges of theft from the investigation,” said spokesperson Acting Sgt. Kathy Rochlitz. “We just have to tie people and property together.”
RCMP are asking anyone who had their vehicle broken into to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
Police are using the incident to remind everyone to lock their cars and don’t leave any valuable items inside. RCMP also stress the importance of reporting minor incidents, such as vehicle thefts, because they can help lead to arrests and the recovery of stolen goods.
