A southbound vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway Wednesday morning crossed the centre line, hitting a barrier a number of times and sheared off the side-view mirror of an oncoming car.
West Shore RCMP received calls about the erratic driving. Officers spotted a silver PT Cruiser matching the description and attempted to pull the driver over, but even with police lights and sirens going, the car did not slow down.
Police pulled in front of the vehicle to slow it down from 80 km/h and the driver finally stopped the car in the slow lane south of West Shore Parkway.
In the end it turned out the 64-year-old female driver had suffered a medical condition that required attention. She was transported to hospital by B.C. Ambulance.
“This was an extremely dangerous situation for both the driver and for the travelling public,” West Shore RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz said. “We are very thankful that we received 911 calls reporting this incident and that our officers were able to take quick action to slow this vehicle down and to obtain medical attention for the driver.”
